Altus Artist Premieres Commissioned Work

AUSTIN, TEXAS–May 16, 2008 – Altus artist John Phillip Rush played with the ensemble that premiered a new work by Gary Schocker.   Commissioned by the Texas Flute Society and paid for by donations from its members, including Altus Flutes, the performance of “Flute Mysterium,” premiered at the noon concert on Saturday May 17th at the Texas Flute Society’s annual flute festival at the University of North Texas in Denton.

“Its a wonderful opportunity for a high profile Altus Artist to play first part in the premier of this piece from such a notable composer as Mr. Schocker,” said Ed Gobbel interim manager of Altus Flutes.

John Phillip Rush is the Principal Flutist for the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and the Tulsa Opera Orchestra.  He is also an instructor for flute at the University of Tulsa and Oral Roberts University’s School of Music.  He joined the Altus artist roster in 2006 and presents masterclasses across the country.
