Awarded United Nations Goodwill Ambassador in Music, Oct - 2000

World music performer and composer George Makinto (referred to as "Makinto") is truly an international person - speaking German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, mixed African dialects and English. Makinto has been traveling around the world for 15 years sharing his music.

A flutist, he also plays piano, and arranges for notable artist Miriam Makeba aka "Mama Africa". He has traveled through over 50 countries making music and integrating the individual styles from different cultures. He has collaborated with many different jazz, gospel, and African musicians. To his credit he has several recordings, along with historical performances for the Pope and Nelson Mandela.

He received his classical training in Germany, with studies in traditional and African music in various African countries. He has further studied American and other forms of black music such as jazz, blues, gospel, Latin American and Brazilian music. Though his main instruments are flute and piano, he has also studied and achieved considerable accomplishment with the guitar, saxophone, percussion, balaphone, cora, and other wooden flutes.

His latest CD release "An African in Paris" is energetic and inspiring with Makinto's ability to unite various world styles to generate harmony and awareness among people throughout the world.
