Christopher
Lee, Co-Principal Flute of the Toronto Philharmonia, began formal study
of flute at age 19 at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Canada.
One year later in 1988, he entered the Faculty of Music at University
of Toronto and was subsequently awarded the licentiate in flute performance
from Trinity College of Music, London, England.
His teachers have included Peg Albrecht (formerly of the Oslo Philharmonic)
and the internationally renowned soloist, Susan Hoeppner. Other coaches
and masterclass instructors include William Bennett, Donald Peck, Julius
Baker, Per Oien, as well as Virginia Markson and Camillie Watts of the
Toronto Symphony.
In 1988 he was appointed Principal flute of the Band of the Royal Regiment
of Canada, an ensemble with which he toured and recorded. After leaving
this position he performed with several orchestras in Toronto including
the New York Symphony and the Toronto Sinfonietta. He was also one of
two flutists chosen from nationwide auditions to participate in the Orchestral
Training Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Lee is currently Co-Principal flute of the Toronto Philharmonia and
since 1994, The Huntsville Festival Symphony at the Huntsville Festival
of The Performing Arts(Canada) held every summer. He has appeared as soloist
with recorded live performances of Vivaldis Piccolo Concerto in
C Major, Mozarts G Major Concerto, Bach B Minor Suite, as well as
the Mercadante Concerto in D Major and selective dates filmed for broadcast
on television. He is also co-founder of the woodwind sextet, Les Six,
which has been recorded and broadcast on CBC.
A popular soloist, chamber musician and teacher, Mr. Lee has performed
in Canada, the United States, Austria, and Spain. In addition he has been
honored with performances for various heads of state of Canada, United
States, The United Kingdom and Norway. Many of these performances have
been recorded and broadcast with the CBC.
A well-known and sought after teacher in Canada, many of his students
have completed performance degrees and have won competitions such as Flute
Talk Competition. He maintains a 100% success rate from students participating
in the Royal Conservatory examinations.
