Principal Flutist - New York Philharmonic Orchestra Mr. Langevin plays the Altus heavy wall 1507 model with in-line Split E. "CONGRATULATIONS
to Robert Langevin!" Beginning in the Fall 2000 season, Robert Langevin became the newly appointed Principal Flutist of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. To his credit he has performed as the Principal Flutist for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 1993. Prior to his tenure in Pittsburgh he was Associate Principal Flutist with the Montreal Symphony and performed in over 30 recordings during a 13 year period. He has also been a member of the Musica Camerata Montreal and L'Ensemble de la Societe de Musique Contemporaine du Quebec where he has premiered many new works, including Pierre Boulez's Le Marteaus sans Maitre. He has performed often on Canada's CBC network as a result of his outstanding chamber music concerts and solo recitals. He has served on the faculties of University of Montreal, Duquesne University and is affiliated with The Juilliard School with his new position in New York. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec he studied with Jean-Paul Major and graduated from Montreal Conservatory in 1976 with First Prizes in Flute and Chamber Music, in addition he later won the national "Prix d'Europe" - a competition between all instrumentalists. This prize enabled him to study in Europe for 2 years with Aurele Nicolet at the "Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik" in Freiburg, Germany. In 1979 he went to Geneva Switzerland where he studied with Maxence Larrieu - and won 2nd Prize at the Budapest International Competition in 1980, after which he returned to Canada and joined the Montreal Symphony. During summers Mr. Langevin performs and teaches at a special music festival in Orford, Quebec - Canada.
