RIE AKAGI

Recording Artist & Performer

Rie Akagi is one of Japan's leading jazz flutists. Born into a musical family, she began piano studies at age 5 and flute studies at age 9. She completed her classical training at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1982. During her university years she developed a strong interest in jazz and various other styles of music - such as latin music and pop styles. Because of her strong musical foundation and desire to learn, Rie Akagi was able to embrace and excel in performing many styles of music. In addition, she is a gifted arranger and composer. She has had numerous performances and appearances on radio and TV in addition to her regular touring schedule. She has performed with artists Tito Puente, Chevere, Poncho Sanchez Group, and Makinto to name a few and has participated in many international jazz festivals and Latin music festivals. To her credit she has already recorded and produced 10 of her personal recordings since 1984.
