MARY STOLPER



Mary Stolper brings a signature vibrancy and technical flair to her extensive repertoire on the flute. She is a member of the new music ensemble Fulcrum Point, and is the solo flutist of the American Chamber Orchestra based in Chicago. She is also currently Principal Flute of the Grant Park Symphony, and Chicago Opera Theater. Ms. Stolper has performed and toured internationally with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestros Solti, Barenboim, and Boulez.

In September of 1999, Ms. Stolper was an invited juror and guest performer for the Third International Penderecki New Music Competition in Cracow, Poland. In June of 1998, Ms. Stolper was the featured soloist with the Czech National Symphony in Prague, an engagement during which she recorded her second compact disc. Her first recording, on the Erato label, met wide critical acclaim and featured flute music of composer Shulamit Ran. She has also been a regular and featured soloist performer with the University of Chicago Contemporary Chamber Players, the Chicago Chamber Musicians, and the Music "Now" series under the direction of Maestros Boulez and Colnot.

Ms. Stolper has served on the board of many prominent civic and cultural organizations including the Illinois Arts Council, Musicians Club of Women, Chicago Society of Composers, the National Flute Association, and she has served as President of the Chicago Flute Club. She is also active in Chicago's recording studios. As a singer, Ms. Stolper gave her singing and acting debut in the 1996 production of "Don Quixote" as the character Sancho Panza, written by University of Chicago composer, John Eaton.

Mary Stolper also has an active teaching studio and has been teaching flute at DePaul University since 1986. A sought after clinician, she possesses an energetic and encouraging teaching style described as inspirational! Mary is an Altus Harmony Flute artist.
