YU KURATA
Yu Kurata started playing the Flute at the age of 12 and studied with Keiko Nagayama, Eikoh Kawase, Koichi Ito and Soichi Minegishi in Japan.
In 1996, she studied at The Studio in England with Trevor Wye for two years and the following year at the Royal Academy of Music in London with William Bennett.
In 2002, she studied with Michel Moragues in Paris and Clifford Benson in England. She has been a First Prize Winner in the Japanese Student Music Competition, Japan Woodwind Competition, and Takarazuka Vega Music Competition, and Second Prize Winner in the Japan Music Competition.
She was also a winner of the Special Prize in Markneukirchen International Competition in 2002. Ms Kurata is an active recitalist including radio broadcasting and has appeared with Trevor Wye and Clifford Benson in recitals in Japan and the United States. She has also appeared with the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Chamber Orchestra and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra as a soloist. She was a guest artist at the British Flute Society Convention in York in 2004. Ms. Kurata is a member of the Flute Quintet ‘’The Bluebelles’’ and has been a principal Flutist in the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Japan since April 2004.
