These terrific flutes, in a wide range of models, have all the qualities they need: beauty of sound, excellent intonation, and a solid mechanism." - George Pope Over the last twenty- five years, George Pope has forged an international reputation as a fine performing artist and teacher, particularly through his masterclasses. A graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Tulsa; his former studies were with such wonderful teachers as: Marion McNally, former Cleveland Orchestra Principal - Maurice Sharp, Walfrid Kujala of the Chicago Symphony, and former Pittsburg Symphony flutist - Bernard Goldberg; with additional studies with renowned teachers and performers - William Bennett and Geoffrey Gilbert. Presently George Pope is Professor of Flute at the University of Akron Currently he is Immediate Past President of the National Flute Association as well as Chair of the Commercial Membership Committee of the National Flute Association. In the past, he has been very involved with NFA as an active member on the NFA Board of Directors, and has been a prominent presence as a performer, master class teacher, concert coordinator, competition judge, panelist and recently served as Program Chair for the 2000 NFA Convention in Columbus, Ohio. He has done arduous work to establish high standards applicable to the support and musical education of flutists. Because of his high caliber of playing as a featured guest artist, as well as a teacher and performer throughout the United States with various flute clubs; he has firmly established himself as a successful and inspiring teacher. In the summertime, George Pope hosts and coordinates the SUMMER FLUTE EXPERIENCE. This is a week long event listing many flute related activities that include repertoire classes, techinique classes, flute choirs, recitals, improvisational coaching, orchestral excerpt coaching as well as Klezmer flute this year! Flute pedagogy is also discussed to offer inspiration to teachers. Informal as well as formal concerts are scheduled for a complete flute experience!
