Elizabeth plays the Altus PS(1707) model and 14K Altus flute with Silver keys. Elizabeth Holler-Ransom is a strong teaching and performing presence in North Carolina. A graduate of North Carolina School of the Arts (1992) while a student with Philip Dunnigan, she also studied one year at the Hamburg Hochschule fur Musik with Ingrid Koch and at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Siena, Italy) with Severino Gazzelloni. In 1992-93 she was the recipient of a Fulbright grant in addition to winning first prize in the Elise-Meyer Competition, Hamburg, Germany. She has also been honored winning scholarships and awards from Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Siena, Italy), Affiliate Artists, Inc.-Talent for America, with grand prizes from Elizabeth Harper Vaughn Concerto Competition, Fort Collins Symphony –Young Artist Competition, and has been honored with the Emerging Artist Grant from the Winston-Salem Arts Council. Elizabeth has performed as an orchestral flutist and as a soloist with Carolina Chamber Symphony, Kingsport Symphony, Fort Collins Symphony, Mid-Atlantic Chamber Orchestra, North Carolina School of the Arts Orchestra, North Carolina School of the Arts International Music Program Orchestra. Since 1993 she has been Principal Piccolo in Winston-Salem Piedmont Triad Symphony and Principal flute with The Carolina Chamber Symphony, with other appearances with flute and piccolo with North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, Western Piedmont Symphony, and North Carolina School of the Arts Orchestra. She has been a performing member since 1991 with the West End Chamber Ensemble. Elizabeth teaches at Davidson College and North Carolina School of the Arts Community Music School. Since 1996 she has been teaching flute at the North Carolina School of the Arts Summer Session. Of special note, Elizabeth is very involved in arts in education programs, having worked with physically and mentally disabled children and adults using music and expressive movement. She is a participant of the Bolton Project, an innovative musical residency pilot project sponsored by the Winston-Salem Piedmont Triad Symphony.
