Emily is principal flute of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.

Born in Wales, she began her formal musical education as a junior department scholar (Saturday school) at the Royal College of Music (London) with Margaret Ogonovsky and from there went on to study with William Bennett at the Royal Academy of Music and with Alain Marion in Paris. She now teaches at The Hague Royal Conservatory.

Emily made her BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall in 1999 with The New London Orchestra. Other orchestras with whom she has appeared as a concerto soloist include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, The Guildhall String Ensemble, and Vienna, Prague, Netherlands and English Chamber Orchestras.

Emily is a very keen and sincere chamber musician; she works regularly with her sister, the harpist Catherine Beynon and the pianist Andrew West, as well as with the Nash Ensemble, Skampa Quartet, future plans include a programme in the Concertgebouw with Brodsky Quartet. The 1999/2000 International Chamber Music series at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank (London) was opened by a sell-out chamber concert with Emily joining Steven Isserlis, Jean-Yves Tibaudet and Dame Felicity Lott.

She has appeared regularly in BBC Radio 3 and World Service, as well as in several documentaries for Thames Television, the BBC and AVRO television (Netherlands)

An enthusiastic protagonist of new music, Emily has had several new works written for her, including Sally Beamish's "Words for my Daughter" and Jonathan Dove's Flute Concerto, "The Magic Flute Dances". In February 2002 she gave the premier of a new work for flute and piano by John Woolrich which was a joint BBC/Royal Philharmonic Society commission.
